About Us

Hi, I’m John Beech and like you, I’ve caught the modeling bug. Got a full dose as I built my first RC model, a high wing trainer, over the winter of 1972. Joined AMA in the spring and set about learning to fly. Over the next +50 years, while there have been many models to include giant scale, helicopters, and jets, the one constant‘s been my AMA membership . . . yeah, I’m a lifer!

Along the way, I formed Audacity Models (2004). My goal? An easy to build and fly RC model helicopter. But over time, one issue kept nagging at me. Basically, helicopters are absolutely brutal on servos because of the high vibration environment.

As an engineer, I knew the fix was easy because Uncle Sam overcame shock and vibration long ago by adopting MIL-STDS. Since nobody was willing to build to such demanding specs, the solution was to do it myself. We formed ProModeler (2013) and offered up our first two servos; one for cyclic control, plus a high speed gyro-optimized version designed for tail rotor.

One day a defense contractor, curious about what we were doing, reached out. One thing led to another and today, servos became the tail that wags the dog! Our lineup? Now 7 classes of PWM servos priced $35-385 and ranging from 75-5255oz-in.

Resources - Avionics List

Equipping your model will require an engine, muffler, blades, servos, and gyro. We have you covered with a pair of mufflers, several blade alternatives, and especially avionics. This, because we've put together several packages tailored to both your needs and your budget.

At last! Here's how you can get what's best for you based on where you are on the arc of pilot development ranging from beginner, intermediate, to consumate pro 'and' do it without breaking the bank!

But what's different from others is instead of offering cheaply made servos, we offer you best in class. For example, every single servo has stainless steel gears. They all use a genuine Noble potentiometer. You're getting top-of-the-range quality, e.g. 13 seals and o-rings, bronze case bushings reinforcing the gear shaft bores, and not only do you get an aluminum center section, but one where fins are machined into it for better cooling. Put another way, no shortcuts to make the 'deal' more attractive.

Why? Simple, because the goal isn't just selling you a package deal, but offering you the good stuff.

- Knowing what's in it for you takes a sharp eye . . . for example, eyeball the little brass inserts reinforcing the case

What's the catch? It's that you play a critical role because when we say budget build, sport/3D, and hard-3D . . . this is us trying to translate into words a concept, which isn't black or white.

For example, pilot-wise, there's a fair bit of gray between sport/3D and hard-3D even though money-wise they're not so far apart. So where you come into things is knowing the truth of whether you should opt for more powerful servos just because you can afford the difference or if it's because you will actually make use of the added torque.

  • Budget Build - learning to hover and sporting-use
  • Sport/3D - hard sport with some fairly serious 3D tossed in the mix
  • Hard-3D - über aggressive 3D maneuvers (or if you fly heavier scale models)

So because we don't know you, have no clue how you actually fly, and certainly can't know your intentions, you'll have to decide what's best for you based on knowing yourself.

However, what differentiates the servos between sport and 3D is a 60% quicker transit speed. And between 3D and hard-3D there's a 60% bump in torque for the snap required when performing maneuvers with harder stops and starts.

Budget Build

When flight ambitions include learning to fly (but 3D never enters the picture) then don’t pony up for the faster servos of our sport/3D-package because the only place you’ll feel the difference is your wallet! Included are the servos for cyclic/collective pitch, tail rotor, throttle, and mixture, as well as high capacity LiIon receiver pack (enough for 5-8 flights), an anti-vibration potted power switch, 6" extension for your gyro, and heavy duty polymer servo arms for flight controls.

Budget build avionics bundle
- Smooth, powerful, and precise, a curated collection of avionics components for sport pilots

This is all you need for mastering upright/inverted hovering orientations to include; tail-in, all four 45° presentations, plus side-on, and nose-in. Then once you enter the realm of forward flight, these servos will also see you through sporting aerobatic maneuvers drawn from the F3C schedule to include loops, rolls, and stall turns beyond the conventional 180° to the crowd pleasing 540°.

Note; this package sucks for 3D because the cyclic/throttle servos are fast enough for sport maneuvers but not 3D.

  • Cyclic Servo (x3) = DS270DLHV
  • Tail Rotor Servo = DS135BLHV
  • Throttle Servo = DS90DLHV
  • Mixture Servo = DS90DLHV
  • On/Off Switch = SWITCH5D
  • Battery = B2S5200
  • Extension = EX20AWG6
  • Arms: Cyclic (x3) = PDRS101
  • Arm: Tail Rotor = PDRS101

Sport/3D

Once your dreams include 3D maneuvers like tick-tocks and piroflips, you'll want the quickness of the servos in this high performance sport/3D bundle because you get stupid fast transit speed (0.047sec/60°) for both cyclic and throttle, an über quick tail rotor servo (0.026sec/60°), plus mixture servo. You’re also getting enough LiIon pack capacity for 3-4 flights, an anti-vibration potted power switch, 6" extension for your gyro, and alloy servo arms for flight controls (cyclic/20mm, tail rotor/15mm).

- When aggressive sport maneuvers and getting into 3D is on your mind, this is your package

This package is the sweet spot for both sport pilots and those whose ambitions include 3D maneuvers because you're getting no-excuse lightweight servos with a finned alloy center case for cooling, and brutally fast brushless motors to deliver years of service.

Note; this is a great package for sport/3D type maneuvers

  • Cyclic Servo (x3) = DS255BLHV
  • Tail Rotor Servo = DS135BLHV
  • Throttle Servo = DS255BLHV
  • Mixture Servo = DS90DLHV
  • On/Off Switch = SWITCH5D
  • Battery = B2S2600
  • Extension = EX20AWG6
  • Arms: Cyclic (x3) = PDRS20-25T
  • Arm: Tail Rotor = PDRS15-25T

Hard 3D

Difference between journeyman and master includes maneuvers that start and stop where you want (versus ending up on their own). As your passage toward mastering 3D expands to include deceptively simple maneuvers like rainbows, you’ll appreciate the +60% increase in torque 415oz-in servos bring to the game. After all, stopping on a dime requires grunt to arrest the momentum developed during long arcs of flight.

close up of the components for hard 3D performance
- Beauty and the beast in an avionics package combining speed and power for hard 3D pilots

Beyond top-shelf servos for flight controls and throttle,  you get a mixture servo, plus enough LiIon receiver pack capacity for 3-4 flights, an anti-vibration potted power switch, a 6" extension for your gyro, and alloy servo arms for flight controls (cyclic/20mm, tail rotor/15mm). Also, if scale is your thang, the servos don’t know the difference in the acceleration/deceleration of hard-3D maneuvers like a rainbow vs checking a combat descent – the physics are the same!

Note; this is our best hard-3D/scale bundle;

  • Cyclic Servo (x3) = DS415BLHV
  • Tail Rotor Servo = DS135BLHV
  • Throttle Servo = DS255BLHV
  • Mixture Servo = DS90DLHV
  • On/Off Switch = SWITCH5D
  • Battery = B2S2600
  • Extension = EX20AWG6
  • Arms: Cyclic (x3) = PDRS20-25T
  • Arm: Tail Rotor = PDRS15-25T

If you can't login, it's usually due to the wrong password. Unfortunately, we can't see your password because of site security. Fortunately, the fix is easy; just click the lost password link (below) and reset it. Easy peasy!
Logging in without 1st registering doesn't work. Why not? Simple, the system doesn't know you exist! Reason for 2-step procedures (registration separate from login) is to thwart black hats attacking websites with 'bots' testing stolen credit card numbers! Way it works is they place an order (usually for a 99¢ item) and if the purchase goes through, it's flagged good. Thing is, with million card-number lists, testing numbers one-by-one with humans is a non-starter so they find sites allowing 1-step checkout and leave us alone. So a 2-step process works like a speed bump and while we're sorry for the inconvenience, it's the world we live in.

G&I

Like all Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), drones trade off range for payload. Yet whilst noisy and hobbled by the limited duration of lithium batteries (sourced from precarious players), autonomous quadcopter drones nevertheless offer interesting capabilities in civilian and battlefield operations.

Leveraging the incredibly stealthy sonic profile of low-frequency single-rotor physics, helicopters pair increased maneuverability due to collective pitch control loops with much lower observability. This opens new doors to mission planners.

Then because engines offer loiter capabilities extending to an hour, with payloads ranging 100KM from launch, the P6 Utilty airframe offers intriguing capabilties through added versatility. This means fulfilling missions in new ways. If your project engineers find these concepts appealing, we invite you to lay out your requirements.
