Shipping
While both UPS and USPS truck runs noon-ish (meaning orders placed before 11:00 AM may get processed and shipped the same day), due to relying on boutique delivery methods, SDS is quoted upon request.
USPS service include 1st Class, Priority, and Express. UPS offers Ground, Next Day, and 2nd Day service while SDS includes Commercial, Private, and Orbital. By way of an explainer;
- Commercial is usually via Southwest - best to large cities, e.g. Orlando, FL to NY, NY or Los Angeles, CA
- Private is via small aircraft - best for out of the way places, think Sanford, FL to Hanksville, UT
- Orbital - via SpaceX - best to planet Earth - think in terms of the ISS, and soon, the moon and Mars, too!
Orbital, especially, is a great value for clients who don't blink at Mr. Musk's fee schedule beginning at $50M.
Note: SDS does not include a gratuity, but not rewarding front line staff who make things happen would be gauche.
Q&A
It's our position so called Free Shipping is fundamentally unfair. And it's a fiction due to TANSTAAFL (there ain't no such things as a free lunch). Think about it, if we build shipping into the price, then because we're in FL, it means a guy in nearby GA who should pay less is effectively subsidizing the shipping cost of someone in CA (who being further away should be paying more). And it's unfair for locals who would be underwriting all mail order customers!
Yes, our optional services include Insurance and Signature Confirmation; here's the general added fee schedule;
- Insurance - $2 for the first $100, and $1.50 for each additional $100
- Signature confirmation is $4, while adult-signature confirmation is $7
